TWIST OUT CANCER BRINGS BRUSHES WITH CANCER
GALA AND EXHIBITION TO TEL AVIV ON TUESDAY, MARCH 13
Artists are matched with Israelis touched by cancer
to create a unique piece of artwork reflective of their journey with cancer
January 10, 2018, Tel Aviv – Twist Out Cancer, an international non-profit charitable organization that provides psychosocial support to individuals touched by cancer through creative arts programming, announced today that tickets are now on sale for its Brushes with Cancer Exhibition and Gala. It will be held at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, at Beit Andromeda, located at Mifratz Shlomo Promenade 4 in Tel Aviv – Yafo. Brushes with Cancer matches those touched by cancer with artists to create a unique piece of artwork that reflects on their journey with cancer. The Exhibition and Gala will feature 50 artists and inspirations that will showcase their stories and works of art. Attendees will have a chance to view the unique works of art that were created by an artist as a tribute to their inspiration’s journey with cancer. Each piece of art will be exhibited and auctioned with proceeds helping to further Twist Out Cancer’s mission to support cancer survivors and their loved ones around the world.
“I am excited to bring Brushes with Cancer to Tel Aviv because we believe it is a unique opportunity to bring together individuals of different ages, backgrounds and religious affiliations as cancer doesn’t discriminate,” said Jenna Benn Shersher, the Founder and Executive Director of Twist Out Cancer. “With cancer as the common denominator we are able create unexpected intersections between different groups of people who otherwise may not have had an opportunity to connect. Using the creative arts as a mechanism for healing, we have the opportunity to positively impact individuals touched by cancer and provide artists with a platform to use their talents to support and advocate for others.”
The gala will be emceed by Yuna Leibzon, and will feature performances from some of the finest musicians in Israel. This includes singer-songwriter Totemo, who is also a cancer survivor, rock band Electric Desert, and DJ Pipe. There will also be a new dance performed by world–renowned para-dancer Vital Zinger, who is a cancer survivor and is having a unique piece of artwork created that represents her journey with cancer. Among the internationally acclaimed artists that are paired with inspirations are Nissim Ben Aderet, Igal Fedida, and Collin Reiff.
VIP tickets are available for 250 shekels and general admission tickets are available for 180 shekels. VIP ticketholders can enter at 6:30 p.m. and will have access to a private meet and greet with Brushes with Cancer participants, special live performances, and VIP food and drink. Over 100,000 people worldwide have been touched by Twist Out Cancer’s programs and events since the organization was founded in 2011. Its signature event is Brushes With Cancer, which is held in several cities around the world. Artists are strategically matched with an inspiration – someone who has been touched by cancer, which includes survivors, previvors, caregivers and supporters. Over a period of several months, selected pairs will connect in person, via Skype, on the phone, or by email to collaborate in creating a unique piece of artwork that is reflective of their journey with cancer. The artwork is displayed for the first time at Brushes With Cancer.
Established in 2011 as a non-profit organization, Twist Out Cancer offers the platform, tools and community – both online and offline – for anyone touched by cancer to feel connected to a community, and for many to take action. A labor of love, Twist Out Cancer is a volunteer-led organization boasting a network of over 200 active volunteers serving as ambassadors in Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, Ann Arbor, Tel Aviv, Toronto, and Montreal.
