Artist Statement: Anita shared her journey with me over many months.I cannot imagine what it must be like to have two young girls and go through a cancer diagnosis. She finds joy in so many things that it was difficult to decide which elements to include in the painting. We have a shared love of travel, so I knew that component would be included in the design (through the window), plus a nod to her beautiful girls and handsome husband. I added in her little pup because I know how much she means to the entire family. Anita also mentioned that as a teen she was tall and lanky, like a giraffe, so there’s a small giraffe figurine on the table. She is so beautiful inside and out, I looked at a lot of Matisse’s paintings for guidance and listened to one of her favorite singers, Norah Jones, who recently recorded “'Blue Skies,”' which inspired the painting's title. Anita is an inspiring human being and I hope this painting informs each viewer how wonderful she is.
