Twist on Cancer: At the time of my cancer diagnosis, I isolated myself after being ghosted by some of the closest people in my life. I have found now that through storytelling, I have opened myself to receiving love from people who care for me, despite my diagnosis. The people I have found within the cancer community have been nourishing for my recovery and acceptance of my life after diagnosis. Thank you to Twist Out Cancer for providing this safe space to honor and celebrate all aspects of cancer life.

Artist Statement: Life is fragile but a beautiful thing. I’ve lived part of my life in front of the ocean and find it the most meaningful inspiration. What an excellent opportunity to use that expressiveness by understanding the beauty of a woman who went through the turbulent waters of cancer to finally land in the enchanted and calm waters of the ocean. The blues strokes balanced the delicacy of life of the woman in the water and the betta fishes showing the blessings, happiness and life around us. Both pieces are inspirations about Mabel and the way she can see life and happiness everywhere.
