Twist on Cancer: My "twist on cancer is" we can control what happens to us but what we can control is our thoughts, words and actions (think, say, do). We have the power to face any situation of adversity differently but changing our think, say, do and have different outcomes and results.

Artist Statement: My wall sculptures seek to study human emotions and interactions. My own emotions as I create a piece inform its direction. In that vein, I felt incredibly fortunate to have Patryce as my inspiration. She had not only gone through something incredibly challenging and life-changing, she had somehow managed to create something beautiful and resolute out of it. She wrote a book that was like "a friend holding one’s hand” for those going through cancer. It talked about “dancing in the rain despite the grey skies.” I teared up with admiration as I read through it and smiled as I saw the pride and joy in Patryce's face when she talked about it. Discovery, diagnosis, declaration, documentation, doctors, dosage, disclosure, donors, development, and destiny. These were all the aspects Patryce not only touched upon, but openly shared her own raw emotions and experiences around in a very relatable manner. At the end of each chapter, she connected one more ‘dot’ for the reader. The dots were imperfectly aligned, reflecting the reality of things, yet flowed beautifully together like a constellation. Even in her struggles, Patryce was poetic in her depictions and it felt so ‘right’ when I had an aha moment to use the dots to represent her spirit and her journey. The textured background reflects imperfections of life that surround this journey and how the raised ‘dots’ rise above those imperfections to serve as a guide, intricately leading one down a path less traveled.
